Principal's Message

Dear DIAS Puma Families,

My name is Diana Medina Dietrich, and I am privileged to serve as the principal of the Dual Immersion Academy of Salinas (DIAS).

Background
I grew up in Gonzales, CA, and was an English Learner in my early school years. Learning Spanish at home helped me become fluently bilingual by the end of 2nd grade. My parents, naturalized citizens from Mexico, inspired me to be the first in my family to pursue higher education. I graduated from Stanford University (B.A. 2006, M.A. 2007) and completed an administrative graduate program at San Jose State University (M.A. 2013). Over the past 17 years, I have held various roles in education, including teacher, academic coach, assistant principal, and principal.

At Stanford, I discovered my passion for Dual Immersion (DI). My experience as an English Learner who spoke Spanish at home made me accidentally bilingual. This sparked my interest in helping students become intentionally bilingual through DI programs. I was part of a committee that started a DI program in Gonzales, and now I proudly lead an all-Dual Immersion program at DIAS.

Vision
I believe that together with parents, teachers, and staff, we can maximize opportunities for students through dual immersion, enhancing their career prospects and global contributions. My mission is to empower all students through academic excellence and socioemotional well-being, helping them become globally conscious citizens who shape our world by making positive, innovative, and responsible choices. I aspire to bridge DIAS's past and future, honoring traditions while building new enhancements.

I am committed to working closely with all stakeholders to create a supportive and innovative learning environment. Together, we will continue to offer a world-class dual immersion education with highly qualified teachers, a rigorous academic program, and enriching opportunities and traditions.
